Employees Lack Faith in Managers

Employees Lack Faith in Managers

| W.E.U Admin | Workplace Wellbeing

A recent article by HR News highlights how employees lack faith in managers and leaders of their organisations, and how this distrust is exacerbated when trade union officials appear too closely aligned with those same managers.

The Workers of England Union uses completely independent trade union representatives who are not employed by your company and whose only concern is our members.

Research Findings from Willis Towers Watson

According to the 2016 Global Workforce Study by Willis Towers Watson, less than half of UK employees (49%) trusted or had confidence in their organisation’s executives. Only 41% believed their leaders were interested in employee wellbeing, while just 35% thought their organisation excelled at developing future leaders internally.

The survey also revealed that managers often struggle with clear communication and fair decision-making. Only 49% of employees believed goals and assignments were communicated clearly, and a mere 40% felt performance-linked pay decisions were fair. Furthermore, only 44% thought managers had sufficient time to address the people aspects of their roles.

Performance Management and Employee Engagement

Performance improvement coaching was identified as a particular area of weakness, with only 38% of employees stating that their managers provided adequate coaching. Yves Duhaldeborde, a director at Willis Towers Watson, explained:

“Given the changing nature of work, strong, effective corporate leaders and managers working together is at an all-time high. Strong leadership is a key driver of employee engagement and improved performance.”

Our Commitment to Independence

The Workers of England Union ensures that trade union representatives remain fully independent and focused solely on member interests. This approach helps rebuild trust, foster engagement, and deliver effective representation for all members.
