On Monday, 9th February 2016, the Workers of England Union formally submitted evidence to the House of Lords Select Committee on Trade Union Political Funds and Political Party Funding—a clear declaration that we are not and will never be affiliated to any political party.

Commitment to Political Neutrality

We have always cherished our political neutrality, enabling us to select campaigns that deliver real benefits to our members. Protecting your jobs, ensuring you are treated fairly by your employer, and improving your working conditions remain our top priorities.

Submission to the House of Lords Select Committee

The Workers of England Union is a new and growing trade union with ambitions to represent all types of workers across England. Our submission emphasizes that:

Opposition to Political Party Funding: No trade union should allocate members’ subscriptions to a political fund supporting any party. Resources must be devoted exclusively to campaigns that directly benefit our members.

Annual Donation Cap: If political funds are permitted, we advocate an annual cap of £50,000 per party and require each member to opt in before any portion of their subscription is used for political purposes.

Principle of Political Neutrality: Trade unions should not be bound to a single party, as every party may offer policies that serve the interests of union members. We must remain free to adopt the best proposals from any political source.

Conclusion

In the interests of transparency and member-focused campaigning, the Workers of England Union opposes all political party funding from trade union resources. Our focus will always be on the issues that matter most to you.

Signed,
Workers of England Union
