How do the 2026 union recognition rules work?


The process for a union to become "recognised" for collective bargaining has been simplified as of April 2026. Unions no longer need to prove majority support for strike action, and a ballot now only requires a simple majority of those who vote (the old 40% threshold has been abolished).
