Recent comments by Wes Streeting MP, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, have made it clear that while a face mask mandate is not currently being proposed, it has not been ruled out for the future.
Speaking about potential public health measures, he stated that he would not “rule anything out” and that future decisions would depend on circumstances at the time.
For many workers, this understandably raises concerns around personal choice, workplace safety, and how any future measures would be applied in practice.
Why Union Membership Matters in Times of Uncertainty
At times like this, being a member of the Workers of England Union is of the utmost importance. The WEU exists to ensure that working people across England are not left to face uncertainty alone.
Whether members are concerned about mask requirements, workplace policies, or how decisions are made and enforced, Trade Union membership means having a voice, representation, and support.
The WEU urges members to speak with colleagues who share these concerns and encourage them to join the Workers of England Union. A strong and growing membership ensures workers are listened to and treated fairly, whatever changes may come in the future.
Being prepared is essential.
A Calm, Proportionate and Fair Approach
The WEU approaches these issues calmly and respectfully. We believe workers deserve clear communication, reasonable consideration of individual circumstances, and protection from unfair treatment.
Our independent Trade Union representation helps ensure that any workplace measures are applied proportionately and with proper consultation.
Statement from the Workers of England Union
Stephen Morris, General Secretary of the Workers of England Union, said:
“Times of uncertainty are exactly why Trade Unions, like the Workers of England Union, exist. The WEU stands for fairness, choice and protection at work.
If you live and work in England, you should never feel isolated when policies change or when Wes Streeting MP, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, gives a clear indication that face masks could quickly become mandatory.
Together, we make sure our members’ voices are heard. If any of your colleagues are concerned about wearing masks, recommend our Trade Union to them.”
