Stand Against Mandatory NHS Vaccination

Stand Against Mandatory NHS Vaccination

| W.E.U Admin | Workplace Wellbeing

Sajid Javid has made clear his intention to introduce a law requiring mandatory vaccination for workers in the health sector from April 2022. This legislation, approved by Parliament on 14 December, will affect not only the NHS but anyone engaged in a regulated activity within the healthcare sector.

Scope and Ongoing Requirements

Although the law currently applies only to England, the impact will be felt UK-wide, as devolved administrations are likely to follow suit. Even employees who are already fully vaccinated should note that the law allows the goal posts to shift. There is no defined limit to the number of vaccines or boosters that could be required—potentially every 4 to 6 months—to maintain employment.

Resisting Coercive Strategies

Experience from care homes shows the strategies that may be deployed to coerce employees into compliance. To help staff resist undue pressure, we have made available a template letter for submission to managers or senior personnel. Use this letter to assert your rights and stand together with colleagues.
