Do I get sick pay from the first day of illness in 2026?
Yes. As of April 2026, the three-day "waiting period" for Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) has been abolished. You are now entitled to receive SSP from your very first full day of illness, ensuring workers are not forced to work while unwell due to financial pressure.
Statutory Sick Pay is a specific rate and different to company sick pay, which specifically has a lower limit funded by taxpayers.
SSP is up to £123.25 per week paid for up to 28 weeks, however company sick pay may grant you full salary sick pay depending on length of service.
